Night Sky Photography
Taking photographs of the night sky is truly a deep and beautiful experience. I, personally, could feel the connection between the cosmos and me and that was pretty rad. All you need is a tripod and to mess around with the setting of your camera (aperture, ISO, and shutter speed, mostly). Try to find a good spot with little light pollution and remember to watch the stars as the camera does its own work.
Multiple Edits Pt II
I edited this photo a dew times and each one turned out well, but they have a distinct feel to them which I love.
Left to right: mild light adjustments, black and white gradient and low opacity, black and white gradient at low opacity with an increase in temperature.

SOOC and Multiple Edits
I tried two separate edits on this cherub statue but I think I actually prefer SOOC image better.

Vintage Edits
I love to add gradients to certain pictures to add a nostalgic, dated, or sometimes hazy look to them. I took the picture of this old gumball machine in an antique gun store in Genoa. Editing is a very powerful thing, and in this type of edit you can convey a mood or emphasize the age of the subject. I tend to gravitate towards warmer edits although you can create colder edits as well. I usually choose a gradient on Photoshop Elements and then play with opacity of that and the temperature of the background layer.
Terrible to Trippy Art
A while back I took a botched panorama of Lake Tahoe and decided to use it's incontinuity as a base to make some aesthetic art pieces.
Night Photography (moon)
As a good friend once told me, the sky is like one big room that we are all a part of. We get to see some amazing views. There will be more astrophotography to come...
Creative Perspective
There is always a chance to try a new perspective with the elements in your frame.
Faded vs. Color Pop
Both types of editing create a distinct tone. Faded edits often create an eerie or ominous mood. Color pop, however, usually emphasizes a key element of the artwork. Highlighting a certain feature through color is a more pop art/modern way of drawing a perspective.
Colors and Textures
A few small adjustments to lighting and balance create a pleasing color palette in a photo. Juxtaposed textures of the wall and the shell catch attention. The gradual blur draws the eye to the snail.
Shade & Lighting
These two SOOC photos of the same flower show subtle differences in shadowing. The one on the left has light coming mainly from the left. The right hand one has light from the upper right side. The second has a more translucent look to it whereas the first has more prominent contrast. This natural effect of lighting is vital in photography. Take into account lighting, shadows, and angles as you shoot. The lighting your subject is in is what you'll have to work with if you decide to edit them later.
Frame Positioning
Both photos use vertical lines as a type of positioning within the frame. The flowers line up, filling the frame while still respecting their individual angles. The feather in the second photo is parallel to the edge of the frame while complementing the sprawled leaves of the plant.
Fine Art Photography
If you find an interesting texture or pattern that catches your eye, go ahead and play with it! See what kind of artistic spin you can put on it. Try different positions, lighting, and contrast. Remember... art is all subjective. shoot what you find interesting!
Artificial Lights
Christmas is the perfect time to play around with light! You can use any kind of lights and create different effects! Happy Holidays!
Selective Color
The use of color or lack of color can really change an image. The whole mood can be shifted.
Build in Filters on the Camera
I find some of the filters on my camera to be quite helpful...especially for a dramatic outline and emphasis of mountains.
Use of Shadow
Shadows are a very interesting element of pictures and are sun to experiment with.
Straight Out of Camera
Every now and again you get and amazing photo that can do without editing!
Ghost of Nature
This picture symbolizes the destruction and disruption of nature that humans have caused and continue to cause.
Lamps and Sunspots
Just a little bit of photoshop goes a long way. You can change colors, add sunspots or isolate parts to be black and white.
Landmark
Coit Tower at San Francisco. This demonstrates the angle of worm's eye view. This shooting angle creates a more dramatic effect.
Tribute to Nature
This is a landscape of Lake Tahoe on the California side. The subject is in the 2nd and 3rd parts of the frame creating a more interesting piece to look at. The blue has also been enhanced to grab attention.
Christmas Time Wonder
This photograph won an Honorable Mention in the 2015 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. A boy looking up at the magic of Christmas time lights.
